Mrs. Liberty's Homework Policy and Suggestions
I would like to familiarize you with my homework routine. The homework that I assign and send home is intended to reinforce what I am teaching in the classroom. I see homework as being VERY important, even at such a young age because it prepares them for the rest of their educational career.
Students will be receiving a green folder to help keep them organized. Every Monday I will be sending home a newsletter, spelling list and their homework for the week. Any information throughout the week will also be sent home using this folder. They will not have homework on Friday and if something changes I will inform you. I am asking that on Friday they return the homework sheet signed by a parent to let me know that their child has completed the weeks work. They do not need to hand in the actual work, just the sheet signed.
Homework will be tracked using a chart with gold stars. When a student brings me back their signed sheet on Friday (not Monday unless absent on Friday) they will earn a gold star by their name. If they hand in their homework sheet late, they will still receive a star, but it will not be gold. This allows me to know that they have completed their homework though. Once they have 10 gold stars they will receive a pencil. This means that I will also be tracking missing homework and when a child has 3 weeks worth of homework sheets not returned they will receive a phone call home. I am also asking that you provide your child with a backpack to help prevent them from losing work and help them be responsible for their green folder.
Here are some suggestions to help your child complete assignments:
- Provide a space where your child is comfortable to do work
- Be sure your child knows you are there to help if needed
- Ask your child about homework for the week
- Help remind your child to bring in the sheet on Friday signed
